Winter & Spring 2009

Following the success of the Platform, Subway and Bridge works at Rugby Station, Projects Planning Ltd were asked to plan the reinstatement of 6 km of track close to Kettering.

The project involved renewing the formation, track, turnouts and various civils works associated with implementing new railway.

Working for the Contractor, Projects Planning took the tender programme, developed it to an accepted baseline and regularly updated it through to completion of the project.  We successfully demonstrated the true impact of delays on the programme of works which was accelerated to ensure a timely completion as planned.

Once again it was the visibility that planning provides that helped this programme finish on time.

Employed by the Train Operating Company (TOC), Projects Planning Ltd have produced this refurbishment programme to implement a suite of station and depot improvements on the North London Lines.

The challenge in this programme has been to manage the resource required to refurbish over 40 stations in three stages.  First was a clean and freshen up within a few weeks of the new Operator taking control of the concession, then a deep clean, paint and refurbishment within 12 months of commencement.  The final stage includes bridge and canopy works due to commence shortly.  Other aspects include the upgrade of Willesden Depot and staff accommodation along the route.

Projects Planning Ltd have since been asked to develop the programme of works for the mobilisation of the trains on to the East London Lines.

Following some successful work preparing tender programmes for a major contractor, Projects Planning Ltd were approached by them to Programme Manage their works on constructing two new platforms, plus extensions and an under-bridge at Rugby Station.

Despite this project being in midst of Network Rails much maligned Rugby remodelling, our client finished on time and has subsequently won further work from Network Rail as a result of this projects success.

2005 and 2006

Projects Planning Ltd were bought in by the client (Chiltern Railways) to manage the contractor’s programme on this £85M enhancement to the Chiltern Line.  This Design, Build, Fund Transfer project was the first of it’s kind on the railway, as the contractor supplied the funding to build 2 new platforms at Marylebone and improve headway between Biceseter and Marylebone.  Once completed, the assets were transferred to Network Rails stewardship.

The part played by Project Solutions was to ensure that the complex contractors programme was maintained and to direct the Projects team to areas that may cause delays.

We are pleased to say that the project was finished on time, with zero time related claims and that we are now working on delivering the Evergreen III project.
